The founders of SCIENCE Resources have been providing supplemental
science and engineering programs in the greater Philadelphia community
since 2000.
Lisa Swieson, Science Fair Director & Instructor
Lisa has been the
visionary and driving force behind the Greater Philadelphia Homeschool
Science Fair (GPHSF) and has been the director since its inception
in 2000. Lisa also teaches challenging lab-based middle-school
and high-school science classes for homeschoolers under our Science
Academy division and is an assistant coach of our Math Olympiad
team. She has been certified by NASA to borrow moon rocks. She
earned a BA in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dana Swieson, Robotics Director & Coach
Dana heads up our
robotics division, which includes the RoboWhizards and Team Driven.
Dana has coached our middle school FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics
teams, the RoboWhizards, since 2001. In 2004 he started a community-based
high school robotics club that will become a competitive high
school FIRST robotics team in 2006, called Team Driven. He is
co-owner of EPEX, Inc., an energy purchasing consulting company.
He earned a BSE in Mechanical Engineering from the University
of Pennsylvania.
Robert Styer, Math Olympiad Coach
Dr. Styer heads up our Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle
Schools program for homeschoolers, an eighteen-week program that
helps to develop mathematical problem-solving skills. He also
serves as the liaison with Villanova University for our Greater
Philadelphia Homeschool Science Fair. Dr. Styer is Associate Professor
in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Villanova University,
where he served as chairperson from 1997-2003. Dr. Styer is vice
president of the Villanova chapter of Sigma Xi, the national science
and engineering research society.
